Abdullah told us, my father told me, Ubaydah ibn Humayd told us, Sulayman al-A'mash told me, from Raja al-Ansari, from Abdullah ibn Shaddad, from Mu'adh ibn Jabal, who said: I came to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, seeking him, and it was said to me, "He went out earlier." He said: I did not pass by anyone except that he said, "He passed by earlier," until I passed by and found him standing in prayer. He said: I came and stood behind him. He said: He prolonged the prayer, and when he finished the prayer, I said, "O Messenger of Allah, you prayed a long prayer." The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "I prayed a prayer of desire and awe. I asked Allah, Mighty and Sublime, for three things, and He granted me two and withheld one from me. I asked Him not to destroy my nation by drowning, and He granted it to me. I asked Him not to let an enemy who is not from among them prevail over them, and He granted it to me. And I asked Him not to make their violence be among themselves, but He withheld that from me."
