Aswad ibn Amir told us, Abu Bakr ibn Ayyash informed me, from Asim, from Abu Burdah, from Abu Malih al-Hudhali, from Mu'adh ibn Jabal and from Abu Musa, who both said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, whenever he made camp somewhere, the ones nearest to him would be the Emigrants. He said: So we made camp somewhere, and the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, stood up while we were around him. He said: Then I and Mu'adh dozed off during the night, and we looked around — he said — and we went out looking for him, when we heard a rumbling sound like the rumbling of millstones. Then he came, and when he came, he looked and said: What is the matter with you? They said: We woke up and did not find you where you had been, and we feared something had happened to you, so we came looking for you. He said: One came to me in my sleep and gave me the choice between half of my nation entering Paradise or intercession, and I chose intercession for them. We said: Then we ask you by the right of Islam and the right of companionship — do not fail to have us enter Paradise. He said: Then the people gathered around him and said to him the same as we had said, and the people grew numerous, so he said: I make my intercession for whoever dies not associating anything with Allah. (Rawh told us, Hammad — namely Ibn Salamah — told us, Asim ibn Bahdalah told us, from Abu Burdah, from Abu Musa: that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, used to be guarded by his companions — and he mentioned something similar.)
