Muhammad ibn Ja'far told us, Shu'bah told us, from Abdullah ibn Abi al-Safar, from al-Sha'bi, from Kharijah ibn al-Salt, from his uncle, who said: We came from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and came upon a tribe of the Arabs, who said: We have been informed that you have come from this man with good; do you have any medicine or incantation with you? For we have a madman in chains. We said: Yes. He said: So they brought the madman in chains, and I recited the Opening of the Book over him for three days, morning and evening, gathering my saliva then spitting lightly. It was as if he was released from a bond. He said: They gave me a payment, but I said: No, not until I ask the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. I asked him, and he said: Eat; by my life, whoever eats by a false incantation, you have eaten by a true one.
