Yazid and Muhammad ibn Yazid told us, they said: al-Awwam told us - Muhammad said: from al-Qasim - and Yazid said in his hadith: al-Qasim ibn Awf al-Shaybani told me, from a man, who said: We had carried something for Abu Dharr, wishing to give it to him, so we came to al-Rabadhah and asked about him, but did not find him. It was said: He had asked permission to go on Hajj, and was given permission. So we came to him at the town, which was Mina. While we were with him, it was said to him that Uthman had prayed four rak'ahs. This was very hard on Abu Dharr, and he spoke harshly about it, and said: I prayed with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and he prayed two rak'ahs; and I prayed with Abu Bakr and Umar likewise. Then Abu Dharr got up and prayed four rak'ahs himself. It was said to him: You criticized the Commander of the Faithful for something, then you did it yourself? He said: Disagreement is worse than that. Indeed the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, addressed us and said: "There will be, after me, a ruling authority; do not humiliate it. Whoever seeks to humiliate it has cast off the bond of Islam from his neck, and no repentance will be accepted from him until he mends the breach he has made - and he will not do that - then he returns and is among those who honor it." The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, commanded us that the rulers should not overcome us regarding three things: that we command what is right, forbid what is wrong, and teach the people the sunan.
