Ya'la ibn Ubayd told us: al-A'mash told us, from Amr ibn Murrah, from Abu al-Bakhtari, from Abu Dharr, who said: I said: O Messenger of Allah, the rich have taken away the reward - they pray, fast, and perform Hajj. He said: "Do you not pray, fast, and perform Hajj?" I said: They give charity and we do not give charity. He said: "But you too have charity in you: your lifting a bone from the road is charity; your guiding someone on the road is charity; your helping the weak with the strength of your own power is charity; your speaking out on behalf of one who cannot express himself is charity; and your intimacy with your wife is charity." I said: O Messenger of Allah, shall we come to satisfy our desire and be rewarded for it? He said: "Tell me, if he had put it in something forbidden, would he have sinned?" I said: Yes. He said: "So you reckon with evil but do not reckon with good."
