حَدَّثَنَا عَبْد اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو صَالِحٍ هَدِيَّةُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْوَهَّابِ الْمَرْوَزِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ مُوسَى حَدَّثَنَا عِيسَى بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ عَنْ الرَّبِيعِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ عَنْ أَبِي الْعَالِيَةِ عَنْ أُبَيِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ قَالَ لَمَّا كَانَ يَوْمُ أُحُدٍ قُتِلَ مِنْ الْأَنْصَارِ أَرْبَعَةٌ وَسِتُّونَ رَجُلًا وَمِنْ الْمُهَاجِرِينَ سِتَّةٌ فَقَالَ أَصْحَابُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَئِنْ كَانَ لَنَا يَوْمٌ مِثْلُ هَذَا مِنْ الْمُشْرِكِينَ لَنُرْبِيَنَّ عَلَيْهِمْ فَلَمَّا كَانَ يَوْمُ الْفَتْحِ قَالَ رَجُلٌ لَا يُعْرَفُ لَا قُرَيْشَ بَعْدَ الْيَوْمِ فَنَادَى مُنَادِي رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَمِنَ الْأَسْوَدُ وَالْأَبْيَضُ إِلَّا فُلَانًا وَفُلَانًا نَاسًا سَمَّاهُمْ فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى { وَإِنْ عَاقَبْتُمْ فَعَاقِبُوا بِمِثْلِ مَا عُوقِبْتُمْ بِهِ وَلَئِنْ صَبَرْتُمْ لَهُوَ خَيْرٌ لِلصَّابِرِينَ } فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَصْبِرُ وَلَا نُعَاقِبُ.

Abdullah told us, Abu Salih Hadiyyah ibn Abdul-Wahhab al-Marwazi told us, al-Fadl ibn Musa told us, Isa ibn Ubayd told us, from al-Rabi' ibn Anas, from Abu al-Aliyah, from Ubayy ibn Ka'b, who said: On the Day of Uhud, sixty-four men of the Ansar were killed, and six of the Muhajirun. The Companions of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "If we ever have a day like this against the polytheists, we will surely exceed them." Then on the Day of the Conquest, an unknown man called out, "No Quraysh after today!" So the herald of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, called out, "Safety for black and white, except so-and-so and so-and-so" — naming certain people. So Allah, blessed and exalted is He, revealed: "And if you punish, then punish with the equivalent of that with which you were harmed; but if you are patient, it is truly best for those who are patient." So the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "We will be patient and not retaliate."
