'Abdullah told us, 'Abdullah ibn Numayr told me, al-A'mash informed us, from Muslim, from Masruq, from Khabbab, who said: I was a blacksmith, and I had a claim against al-'As ibn Wa'il. I came to him to demand it, and he said: "I will not give it to you until you disbelieve in Muhammad." I said: "No, by Allah, I will not disbelieve in Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, until you die and are then resurrected." He laughed and said: "I will then have wealth and children there, and I will give you your due." So Allah, exalted is He, revealed: "Have you seen the one who disbelieved in Our signs and said, 'I will surely be given wealth and children' -- has he looked into the unseen, or has he taken a covenant with the Most Merciful?" -- the verse.
