Muhanna ibn 'Abd al-Hamid Abu Shibl and Hasan -- meaning Ibn Musa -- told us, they said: Hammad ibn Salama told us -- the sense of the wording -- from Thabit, from Mu'awiya ibn Qurra, from 'A'idh ibn 'Amr: that Salman, Suhayb, and Bilal were sitting among some people when Abu Sufyan ibn Harb passed by them. They said, "The swords of Allah, Blessed and Exalted, have not yet taken their due from the neck of an enemy of Allah." Abu Bakr said, "Do you say this about an elder and chief of Quraysh?" He said: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, was informed of that, and he said, "O Abu Bakr, perhaps you angered them. If you have angered them, you have angered your Lord, Blessed and Exalted." So he went back to them and said, "O my brothers, perhaps you were angered?" They said, "No, O Abu Bakr, may Allah forgive you." Hudba told us, Hammad ibn Salama told us, similarly, with his chain of narrators.
