Yahya b. Sa'id narrated to us: Qurra narrated to us: Muhammad — meaning Ibn Sirin — narrated to us, from 'Abd al-Rahman b. Abi Bakra and from another man who, in my view, is more excellent than 'Abd al-Rahman b. Abi Bakra, from Abu Bakra — 'Abdullah said: someone other than my father said, from Yahya, regarding this hadith: "I consider Humayd b. 'Abd al-Rahman more excellent in my view" — that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, delivered a sermon to the people at Mina and said: "Do you not know what day this is?" We said: "God and His Messenger know best." He said: He fell silent until we thought he would call it by other than its name. He said: "Is it not the Day of Sacrifice?" We said: "Yes." He said: "What land is this?" We said: "God and His Messenger know best." He said: "Is this not the Sacred Land?" We said: "Yes indeed, O Messenger of God." He said: "Then indeed your blood, your wealth, your honor, and your persons are sacred to you like the sanctity of this day of yours, in this month of yours, in this land of yours. Have I conveyed the message?" We said: "Yes." He said: "O God, bear witness. Let the one present convey it to the one absent, for many a person conveyed to may be more mindful of it than the one who conveys it." And it came to pass just so. And he said: "Do not revert after me to being disbelievers, striking one another's necks." Then, on the day of the burning of Ibn al-Hadrami, when Jariya b. Qudama burned him, they looked upon Abu Bakra and said: "This is Abu Bakra." 'Abd al-Rahman said: My mother told me that Abu Bakra said: "Had they come upon me, I would not have raised so much as a reed against them."
