Abu Usama Hammad b. Usama narrated to us: Kahmas informed us, from 'Abdullah b. Shaqiq: Harami b. al-Harith and Usama b. Khuraym — who were both engaged in military campaigns — narrated a hadith to me, neither of them aware that his companion had narrated the very same to me, from Murra al-Bahzi, who said: While we were with the Prophet of God, peace and blessings be upon him, on one of the roads of Madina, he said: "What will you do amid a trial that will erupt across the regions of the earth, like the horns of cattle?" They said: "What shall we do, O Prophet of God?" He said: "[Keep to] this one and his companions" — or he said: "follow this one and his companions." He said: I hurried on until I grew exhausted, and I caught up with the man, and said: "Is this the one, O Messenger of God?" He said: "This one." And it turned out to be 'Uthman b. 'Affan, may God be pleased with him. So he said: "This one and his companions," and he related it.
