حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ حَدَّثَنَا هَمَّامٌ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ عَنْ أَبِي مُوسَى الْأَشْعَرِيِّ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَالَّذِي نَفْسُ مُحَمَّدٍ بِيَدِهِ إِنَّ الْمَعْرُوفَ وَالْمُنْكَرَ خَلِيقَتَانِ يُنْصَبَانِ لِلنَّاسِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ فَأَمَّا الْمَعْرُوفُ فَيُبَشِّرُ أَصْحَابَهُ وَيُوعِدُهُمْ الْخَيْرَ وَأَمَّا الْمُنْكَرُ فَيَقُولُ إِلَيْكُمْ إِلَيْكُمْ وَمَا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ لَهُ إِلَّا لُزُومًا.

Abd al-Samad narrated to us: Hammam narrated to us, from Qatada, from al-Hasan, from Abu Musa al-Ash'ari, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "By the One in whose hand is the soul of Muhammad, good and evil are two created things set up for the people on the Day of Resurrection. As for good, it gives glad tidings to its companions and promises them good things; and as for evil, it says: 'Away from you, away from you,' but they cannot do anything but cling to it."
