Yazid ibn Harun narrated to us: Hariz ibn Uthman — who is al-Rahabi — narrated to us: Sulaym ibn Amir narrated to us, from Amr ibn Abasah, who said: I came to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, while he was at Ukaz, and I said, "Who has followed you in this matter?" He said, "A free man and a slave" — and with him were Abu Bakr and Bilal, may Allah, the Exalted, be pleased with them both. He said to me, "Go back until Allah, Mighty and Sublime, grants power to His Messenger." So I came to him afterward and said, "O Messenger of Allah, may Allah make me a ransom for you — something you know and I do not, which will not harm you, and Allah, Mighty and Sublime, will benefit me by it — is any hour more excellent than another, and is there an hour to be wary of?" He said, "You have indeed asked me about something no one asked me about before you. Indeed Allah, Mighty and Sublime, descends in the depths of the night and forgives, except for what pertains to associating partners with Him and transgression. The prayer is witnessed and attended, so pray until the sun rises; when it rises, refrain from prayer, for it rises between the two horns of a devil, and it is the prayer of the disbelievers, until it climbs higher. When the sun has climbed, pray, for the prayer is attended and witnessed, until the day reaches its midpoint; when the day reaches its midpoint, refrain from prayer, for it is an hour in which Hellfire is stoked, until the shadow inclines; when the shadow inclines, pray, for the prayer is attended and witnessed, until the sun leans toward setting; when it leans toward setting, refrain from prayer until the sun sets, for it sets between the two horns of a devil, and it is the prayer of the disbelievers."
