حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ مِنْ كِتَابِهِ حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ حَدَّثَنَا ثَابِتٌ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى عَنْ صُهَيْبٍ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَجِبْتُ لِأَمْرِ الْمُؤْمِنِ إِنَّ أَمْرَ الْمُؤْمِنِ كُلَّهُ لَهُ خَيْرٌ لَيْسَ ذَلِكَ لِأَحَدٍ إِلَّا لِلْمُؤْمِنِ إِنْ أَصَابَتْهُ سَرَّاءُ شَكَرَ وَكَانَ خَيْرًا وَإِنْ أَصَابَتْهُ ضَرَّاءُ صَبَرَ وَكَانَ خَيْرًا.

Affan told us, from his book, Sulayman told us, Thabit told us, from Ibn Abi Layla, from Suhayb, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "I marvel at the affair of the believer; indeed the whole affair of the believer is good, and that is for no one but the believer: if something good befalls him, he gives thanks, and that is good for him; and if harm befalls him, he is patient, and that is good for him."
