Abu al-Yaman told us, Shu'ayb informed us, from al-Zuhri: Urwah ibn al-Zubayr told us that al-Miswar ibn Makhramah informed him that Amr ibn Awf al-Ansari - who was an ally of Banu Amir ibn Lu'ayy and had witnessed the battle of Badr with the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him - informed him that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, sent Abu Ubaydah ibn al-Jarrah to Bahrain to bring its jizyah, and the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, had made peace with the people of Bahrain and appointed al-Ala' ibn al-Hadrami over them. Abu Ubaydah then arrived with wealth from Bahrain - then he mentioned the hadith, meaning like the hadith of Ma'mar: Abd al-Razzaq told us, Ma'mar told us, from al-Zuhri, from Urwah ibn al-Zubayr, from al-Miswar ibn Makhramah, who said: The Ansar heard that Abu Ubaydah had arrived with wealth from Bahrain, for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, had sent him to Bahrain. So they attended the dawn prayer with the Messenger of Allah, and when the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, had finished, they presented themselves before him. When he saw them, he smiled and said, "Perhaps you have heard that Abu Ubaydah ibn al-Jarrah has arrived, and that he has brought wealth?" They said, "Yes indeed, O Messenger of Allah." He said, "Rejoice, and hope for good, for by Allah, it is not poverty that I fear for you, but rather that the world will be spread out before you as it was spread out before those who came before you, and that you will compete for it just as they competed for it."
