الترجمة الإنجليزية
'Abd al-Razzaq told us, Ma'mar told us, from Yunus b. Khabbab, from al-Minhal b. 'Amr, from Zadhan, from al-Bara' b. 'Azib, who said: We went out with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, to a funeral, and the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, sat by the grave and we sat around him as if birds were upon our heads, while the niche was being dug for the deceased. He said: I seek refuge in Allah from the punishment of the grave - three times. Then he said: When the believer is departing from this world and turning toward the Hereafter, angels descend to him whose faces are like the sun; with each of them is a shroud and fragrant embalming, and they sit as far from him as the eye can see. Then when his soul comes out, every angel between heaven and earth and every angel in heaven prays over him, and the gates of heaven are opened for him, and there is no gate whose people do not implore Allah that his soul be brought up through them. When his soul is brought up, they say: O Lord, Your servant so-and-so! He says: Send him back, for I promised them that I created them from it, and to it I will return them, and from it I will bring them out another time. He hears the tapping of his companions' sandals as they turn away from him. Then one comes to him and says: Who is your Lord? What is your religion? Who is your Prophet? He says: My Lord is Allah, my religion is Islam, and my Prophet is Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him. Then he rebukes him, saying: Who is your Lord? What is your religion? Who is your Prophet? - and this is the last trial presented to the believer. That is when Allah, Mighty and Majestic, says: "Allah keeps firm those who believe, with the firm word, in the life of this world and in the Hereafter." So he says: My Lord is Allah, my religion is Islam, and my Prophet is Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him. Then he says to him: You have spoken truly. Then one of good countenance, sweet fragrance, and fine clothing comes to him and says: Rejoice in honor from Allah and everlasting bliss. He says: And you too, may Allah give you good tidings - who are you? He says: I am your righteous deeds. By Allah, you used to be quick to obey Allah and slow to disobey Him, so may Allah reward you with good. Then a gate of Paradise and a gate of the Fire are opened for him, and it is said: This would have been your abode had you disobeyed Allah; Allah has replaced it for you with this. When he sees what is in Paradise he says: My Lord, hasten the coming of the Hour, so that I may return to my family and my wealth. It is said to him: Be still. As for the disbeliever, when he is departing from this world and turning toward the Hereafter, harsh and severe angels descend upon him, and they wrench out his soul as a many-pronged iron skewer is wrenched out of wet wool, tearing it out with the veins. Every angel between heaven and earth and every angel in heaven curses him, and the gates of heaven are closed, and there is no gate whose people do not implore Allah that his soul not be brought up through them. When his soul is brought up, they say: O Lord, so-and-so son of so-and-so, Your servant! He says: Send him back, for I promised them that I created them from it, and to it I will return them, and from it I will bring them out another time. He hears the tapping of his companions' sandals as they turn away from him. Then one comes to him and says: Who is your Lord? What is your religion? Who is your Prophet? He says: I do not know. So it is said to him: You neither knew nor recited the truth. Then one of hideous countenance, foul clothing, and putrid smell comes to him and says: Receive tidings of disgrace from Allah and everlasting punishment. He says: And you too - may Allah give you tidings of evil - who are you? He says: I am your foul deeds. You used to be slow to obey Allah and quick to disobey Him, so may Allah reward you with evil. Then one who is blind, deaf, and mute is appointed over him, holding an iron mace with which, if a mountain were struck, it would turn to dust. He strikes him one blow until he becomes dust; then Allah restores him as he was, and he strikes him another blow, and he cries out a cry heard by everything except jinn and men. Al-Bara' b. 'Azib said: Then a gate of the Fire is opened for him and a bed from the Fire is spread out for him. Abu al-Rabi' also narrated it to us, Hammad b. Zayd told us, from Yunus b. Khabbab, from al-Minhal b. 'Amr, from Zadhan, from al-Bara' b. 'Azib, similarly.
