حَدَّثَنَا يَعْلَى أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو حَيَّانَ عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ عَنِ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ بَشِيرٍ قَالَ سَأَلَتْ أُمِّي أَبِي بَعْضَ الْمَوْهِبَةِ لِي فَوَهَبَهَا لِي فَقَالَتْ لَا أَرْضَى حَتَّى تُشْهِدَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ فَأَخَذَ أَبِي بِيَدِي وَأَنَا غُلَامٌ وَأَتَى رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ أُمَّ هَذَا ابْنَةَ رَوَاحَةَ زَاوَلَتْنِي عَلَى بَعْضِ الْمَوْهِبَةِ لَهُ وَإِنِّي قَدْ وَهَبْتُهَا لَهُ وَقَدْ أَعْجَبَهَا أَنْ أُشْهِدَكَ قَالَ يَا بَشِيْرُ أَلَكَ ابْنٌ غَيْرُ هَذَا قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ قَالَ فَوَهَبْتَ لَهُ مِثْلَ الَّذِي وَهَبْتَ لِهَذَا قَالَ لَا قَالَ فَلَا تُشْهِدْنِي إِذًا فَإِنِّي لَا أَشْهَدُ عَلَى جَوْرٍ.

Ya'la narrated to us: Abu Hayyan informed us, from al-Sha'bi, from al-Nu'man ibn Bashir, who said: My mother asked my father for part of a gift for me, and he gave it to me. She said: I will not be satisfied until you have the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, bear witness. My father took me by the hand, while I was a young boy, and came to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and said: O Messenger of Allah, the mother of this boy, the daughter of Rawahah, insisted with me over some gift for him, and I have given it to him, and she wished me to have you bear witness. He said: O Bashir, do you have another son besides this one? He said: Yes. He said: Did you give him the like of what you gave this one? He said: No. He said: Then do not have me bear witness, for I will not bear witness to injustice.
