حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ وَابْنُ جَعْفَرٍ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مُرَّةَ عَنْ خَيْثَمَةَ عَنْ عَدِيِّ بْنِ حَاتِمٍ قَالَ ذَكَرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ النَّارَ قَالَ ابْنُ جَعْفَرٍ فَتَعَوَّذَ مِنْهَا وَأَشَاحَ بِوَجْهِهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ اتَّقُوا النَّارَ وَلَوْ بِشِقِّ تَمْرَةٍ فَإِنْ لَمْ تَجِدُوا فَبِكَلِمَةٍ طَيِّبَةٍ.

Abd al-Rahman and Ibn Ja'far told us, they said: Shu'bah told us, from Amr ibn Murrah, from Khaythamah, from Adi ibn Hatim, who said: The Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, mentioned the Fire — Ibn Ja'far said: and sought refuge from it, and turned his face away — then said, "Guard yourselves against the Fire, even with half a date; and if you do not find that, then with a good word."
