It was narrated to us by Yahya ibn Sa'id, from Shu'bah, who said: al-Hakam narrated to me, from Ibn Abi Layla, who said — and it was narrated to us by Muhammad ibn Ja'far, who said: it was reported to us by Shu'bah, from al-Hakam, who said: I heard Ibn Abi Layla say: Ka'b ibn Ujrah met me — Ibn Ja'far said — and said, "Shall I not give you a gift? The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, came out to us, and we said, 'O Messenger of Allah, we already know, or we have learned, how to greet you with peace, but how do we invoke blessings?' He said, 'Say: O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad and upon the family of Muhammad, as You sent blessings upon the family of Abraham; indeed You are Praiseworthy, Glorious. O Allah, bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, as You blessed the family of Abraham; indeed You are Praiseworthy, Glorious.'"
