حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ الْحَنَفِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْحَمِيدِ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي يَزِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي حَبِيبٍ عَنْ مَرْثَدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْيَزَنِيِّ أَنَّ دَيْلَمًا أَخْبَرَهُمْ أَنَّهُ سَأَلَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّا بِأَرْضٍ بَارِدَةٍ وَإِنَّا نَشْرَبُ شَرَابًا نَتَقَوَّى بِهِ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ هَلْ يُسْكِرُ قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ ثُمَّ أَعَادَ عَلَيْهِ الْمَسْأَلَةَ قَالَ هَلْ يُسْكِرُ قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ فَلَا تَقْرَبُوهُ قَالَ فَإِنَّهُمْ لَنْ يَصْبِرُوا قَالَ فَمَنْ لَمْ يَصْبِرْ عَنْهُ فَاقْتُلُوهُ.

It was narrated to us by Abu Bakr al-Hanafi, who said: it was narrated to us by Abd al-Hamid ibn Ja'far, who said: it was narrated to me by Yazid ibn Abi Habib, from Marthad ibn Abdullah al-Yazani, that Dailam informed them that he asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), saying: "O Messenger of Allah, we are in a cold land and we drink a certain drink to gain strength from it." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "Does it intoxicate?" He said: "Yes." Then he repeated the question to him: "Does it intoxicate?" He said: "Yes." He said: "Then do not go near it." He said: "But they will not be able to bear giving it up." He said: "Then whoever cannot bear to give it up, kill him."
