Abdullah ibn Muhammad ibn Numayr told us, Ubadah ibn Muslim told us, Yunus ibn Khabbab told me, from Sa'id Abu al-Bakhtari al-Ta'i, from Abu Kabshah al-Anmari, who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say, "Three things I swear an oath about, and I tell you a hadith, so remember it." As for the three things I swear an oath about: charity does not decrease a servant's wealth; no servant is wronged with an injustice and bears it patiently but that Allah, Mighty and Sublime, increases him in honor because of it; and no servant opens the door of begging but that Allah opens for him the door of poverty. And as for the hadith I tell you, so remember it: he said, "This world belongs to four kinds of people: a servant whom Allah, Mighty and Sublime, has provided with wealth and knowledge, so he is mindful of his Lord in it, maintains kinship ties with it, and recognizes Allah's due right in it — this one is in the most excellent of stations. And a servant whom Allah, Mighty and Sublime, has provided with knowledge but not wealth, so he says, 'If I had wealth I would act as so-and-so acts' — their reward is equal. And a servant whom Allah has provided with wealth but not knowledge, so he handles it in his wealth without knowledge, not mindful of his Lord in it, not maintaining kinship ties with it, nor recognizing Allah's due right in it — this one is in the most wicked of stations. And a servant whom Allah has provided with neither wealth nor knowledge, so he says, 'If I had wealth I would act as so-and-so acts'" — he said, "That is his intention, so their sin in it is equal."
