حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ حَدَّثَنَا هَاشِمٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ الْبَرِيدِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَقِيلٍ عَنْ ابْنِ جَابِرٍ قَالَ انْتَهَيْتُ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَقَدْ أَهْرَاقَ الْمَاءَ فَقُلْتُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ فَلَمْ يَرُدَّ عَلَيَّ فَقُلْتُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ فَلَمْ يَرُدَّ عَلَيَّ فَقُلْتُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ فَلَمْ يَرُدَّ عَلَيَّ فَانْطَلَقَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَمْشِي وَأَنَا خَلْفَهُ حَتَّى دَخَلَ عَلَى رَحْلِهِ وَدَخَلْتُ أَنَا الْمَسْجِدَ فَجَلَسْتُ كَئِيبًا حَزِينًا فَخَرَجَ عَلَيَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَدْ تَطَهَّرَ فَقَالَ عَلَيْكَ السَّلَامُ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ وَعَلَيْكَ السَّلَامُ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ وَعَلَيْكَ السَّلَامُ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ أَلَا أُخْبِرُكَ يَا عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ جَابِرٍ بِخَيْرِ سُورَةٍ فِي الْقُرْآنِ قُلْتُ بَلَى يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ اقْرَأْ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ حَتَّى تَخْتِمَهَا.
الترجمة الإنجليزية
Muhammad ibn Ubayd told us; Hashim — meaning Ibn al-Barid — told us, he said: Abdullah ibn Muhammad ibn Aqil told us, from Ibn Jabir, who said: I came to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, while he had just relieved himself, and I said: "Peace be upon you, O Messenger of Allah," but he did not return my greeting. I said: "Peace be upon you, O Messenger of Allah," but he did not return my greeting. I said: "Peace be upon you, O Messenger of Allah," but he did not return my greeting. Then the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, went off walking, with me behind him, until he entered his dwelling, and I entered the mosque and sat down grieved and sad. Then the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, came out to me, having purified himself, and said: "And upon you be peace and the mercy of Allah, and upon you be peace and the mercy of Allah, and upon you be peace and the mercy of Allah." Then he said: "Shall I not tell you, O Abdullah ibn Jabir, of the best chapter in the Qur'an?" I said: "Yes indeed, O Messenger of Allah." He said: "Recite: 'Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds' until you finish it."
