Abu Bakr al-Hanafi told us, saying: al-Dahhak ibn Uthman told us, from Abu al-Nadr, from Busr ibn Sa'id, from Zayd ibn Khalid al-Juhani, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, was asked about a lost item found (luqatah), and he said: "Announce it publicly for a year; if it is claimed, give it to its owner; and otherwise, note its wrapping and its tie-string and its number" — or "otherwise, use it; and if it is claimed, give it to its owner."
