حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْمُغِيرَةِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا الْأَوْزَاعِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي أَسِيدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ خَالِدِ بْنِ دُرَيْكٍ عَنْ أَبِي مُحَيْرِيزٍ قَالَ قُلْتُ لِأَبِي جُمُعَةَ رَجُلٍ مِنْ الصَّحَابَةِ حَدِّثْنَا حَدِيثًا سَمِعْتَهُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ نَعَمْ أُحَدِّثُكُمْ حَدِيثًا جَيِّدًا تَغَدَّيْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَمَعَنَا أَبُو عُبَيْدَةَ بْنُ الْجَرَّاحِ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَحَدٌ خَيْرٌ مِنَّا أَسْلَمْنَا مَعَكَ وَجَاهَدْنَا مَعَكَ قَالَ نَعَمْ قَوْمٌ يَكُونُونَ مِنْ بَعْدِكُمْ يُؤْمِنُونَ بِي وَلَمْ يَرَوْنِي.

Abu al-Mughirah told us, saying: al-Awza'i told us, saying: Asid ibn Abd al-Rahman told me, from Khalid ibn Duraik, from Abu Muhayriz, who said: I said to Abu Jumu'ah, a man from among the Companions: "Tell us a hadith you heard from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him." He said: "Yes, I will tell you a fine hadith. We had a midday meal with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and with us was Abu Ubaydah ibn al-Jarrah, and he said: 'O Messenger of Allah, is anyone better than us? We accepted Islam with you and struggled with you.' He said: 'Yes — a people who will come after you, who will believe in me without having seen me.'"
