He said: Ya'qub told us, he said: My father told us, from Ibn Ishaq, he said: Muhammad ibn Muslim ibn Ubaydullah ibn Shihab mentioned, from Muhammad ibn Jubayr ibn Mut'im, from his father Jubayr, who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, while he was addressing the people at al-Khayf, saying: May Allah brighten the face of a servant who hears my words, retains them, then conveys them to one who has not heard them, for many a bearer of understanding conveys it to one more understanding than himself, and many a bearer of understanding has no understanding himself. Three things over which the heart of the believer never feels rancor: sincerity of action for Allah, obedience to those in authority, and adherence to the community, for their call encompasses him from behind them. And from Ibn Ishaq, he said: Amr ibn Abi Amr, client of al-Muttalib, told me, from Abd al-Rahman ibn al-Huwayrith, from Muhammad ibn Jubayr ibn Mut'im, from his father, the like of the hadith of Ibn Shihab, neither adding nor omitting anything.
