حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَاصِمٍ قَالَ حُصَيْنٌ أَخْبَرَنَا عَنْ هِلَالِ بْنِ يِسَافٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ ظَالِمٍ الْمَازِنِيِّ قَالَ لَمَّا خَرَجَ مُعَاوِيَةُ مِنْ الْكُوفَةِ اسْتَعْمَلَ الْمُغِيرَةَ بْنَ شُعْبَةَ قَالَ فَأَقَامَ خُطَبَاءَ يَقَعُونَ فِي عَلِيٍّ قَالَ وَأَنَا إِلَى جَنْبِ سَعِيدِ بْنِ زَيْدِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ نُفَيْلٍ قَالَ فَغَضِبَ فَقَامَ فَأَخَذَ بِيَدِي فَتَبِعْتُهُ فَقَالَ أَلَا تَرَى إِلَى هَذَا الرَّجُلِ الظَّالِمِ لِنَفْسِهِ الَّذِي يَأْمُرُ بِلَعْنِ رَجُلٍ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ فَأَشْهَدُ عَلَى التِّسْعَةِ أَنَّهُمْ فِي الْجَنَّةِ وَلَوْ شَهِدْتُ عَلَى الْعَاشِرِ لَمْ آثَمْ قَالَ قُلْتُ وَمَا ذَاكَ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ اثْبُتْ حِرَاءُ فَإِنَّهُ لَيْسَ عَلَيْكَ إِلَّا نَبِيٌّ أَوْ صِدِّيقٌ أَوْ شَهِيدٌ قَالَ قُلْتُ مَنْ هُمْ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَأَبُو بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرُ وَعُثْمَانُ وَعَلِيٌّ وَالزُّبَيْرُ وَطَلْحَةُ وَعَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عَوْفٍ وَسَعْدُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ قَالَ ثُمَّ سَكَتَ قَالَ قُلْتُ وَمَنْ الْعَاشِرُ قَالَ قَالَ أَنَا.

When Mu'awiyah left Kufa, he appointed al-Mughirah ibn Shu'bah. Al-Mughirah set up speakers who reviled Ali. I was sitting next to Sa'id ibn Zayd ibn Amr ibn Nufayl, and he became angry, stood up, took me by the hand, and I followed him. He said: 'Do you not see this man who wrongs himself by ordering the cursing of a man from the people of Paradise? I bear witness regarding the nine that they are in Paradise, and if I were to testify about the tenth, I would not be sinning.' I asked: 'What is that?' He said: 'The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: Be still, O Hira! For there is no one upon you except a prophet, a truthful one, or a martyr.' I asked: 'Who are they?' He said: 'The Messenger of Allah, Abu Bakr, Umar, Uthman, Ali, al-Zubayr, Talhah, Abd al-Rahman ibn Awf, and Sa'd ibn Malik.' Then he fell silent. I asked: 'And who is the tenth?' He said: 'I am.'
