Affan told us: Abd al-Wahid ibn Ziyad told us: Uthman ibn Hakim told us, who said: Ishaq ibn Abdullah ibn Abi Talha told me, who said: my father told me, who said: Abu Talha said: "We were sitting in the open courtyards, and the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, passed by us and said: 'What is the matter with you and the gatherings on the roadsides? Avoid the gatherings on the roadsides.'" He said: We said: "O Messenger of Allah, we sit there for no harm - we discuss matters and converse." He said: "Then give the gatherings their due." We said: "And what is their due?" He said: "Lowering the gaze, returning the greeting, and good speech."
