قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ أَخْبَرَنَا شُعْبَةُ بْنُ الْحَجَّاجِ عَنِ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ سَالِمٍ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي أَوْسٍ عَنْ جَدِّهِ أَوْسٍ قَالَ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ تَوَضَّأَ فَاسْتَوْكَفَ ثَلَاثًا يَعْنِي غَسَلَ يَدَيْهِ ثَلَاثًا فَقُلْتُ لِشُعْبَةَ أَدْخَلَهُمَا فِي الْإِنَاءِ أَوْ غَسَلَهُمَا خَارِجًا قَالَ لَا أَدْرِي.

He said, Yazid ibn Harun told us: Shu'ba ibn al-Hajjaj informed us, from al-Nu'man ibn Salim, from Ibn Abi Aws, from his grandfather Aws, who said: I saw the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, perform ablution and rinse three times, meaning he washed his hands three times. I said to Shu'ba: Did he put them into the vessel or wash them outside it? He said: I do not know.
