قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ بَكْرٍ السَّهْمِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا حَاتِمُ بْنُ أَبِي صَغِيرَةَ عَنِ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ سَالِمٍ أَنَّ عَمْرَو بْنَ أَوْسٍ أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ أَبَاهُ أَوْسًا أَخْبَرَهُ قَالَ إِنَّا لَقُعُودٌ عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي الصُّفَّةِ وَهُوَ يَقُصُّ عَلَيْنَا وَيُذَكِّرُنَا إِذْ جَاءَ رَجُلٌ فَسَارَّهُ فَقَالَ اذْهَبُوا فَاقْتُلُوهُ قَالَ فَلَمَّا وَلَّى الرَّجُلُ دَعَاهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ أَيَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ قَالَ الرَّجُلُ نَعَمْ نَعَمْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ فَقَالَ اذْهَبُوا فَخَلُّوا سَبِيلَهُ فَإِنَّمَا أُمِرْتُ أَنْ أُقَاتِلَ النَّاسَ حَتَّى يَشْهَدُوا أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ فَإِذَا فَعَلُوا ذَلِكَ حُرِّمَتْ عَلَيَّ دِمَاؤُهُمْ وَأَمْوَالُهُمْ إِلَّا بِحَقِّهَا قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو يُونُسَ حَاتِمُ بْنُ أَبِي صَغِيرَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي النُّعْمَانُ بْنُ سَالِمٍ أَنَّ عَمْرَو بْنَ أَوْسٍ أَخْبَرَهُ عَنْ أَبِيهِ أَوْسٍ قَالَ إِنَّا لَقُعُودٌ عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُحَدِّثُنَا وَيُوصِينَا إِذْ أَتَاهُ رَجُلٌ فَذَكَرَ مِثْلَهُ.

He said, Abdullah ibn Bakr al-Sahmi told us, he said: Hatim ibn Abi Saghira told us, from al-Nu'man ibn Salim, that Amr ibn Aws informed him, that his father Aws informed him, who said: We were sitting with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, in the shaded platform, while he was narrating to us and admonishing us, when a man came and whispered to him. He said, 'Go and kill him.' When the man turned to leave, the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, called him and said, 'Does he testify that there is no god but Allah?' The man said, 'Yes, yes, O Messenger of Allah.' He said, 'Go, let him be, for I have only been commanded to fight the people until they testify that there is no god but Allah; and when they do that, their blood and their wealth are forbidden to me except by its right.' He said, Muhammad ibn Abdullah al-Ansari told us, he said: Abu Yunus Hatim ibn Abi Saghira told us, he said: al-Nu'man ibn Salim told me, that Amr ibn Aws informed him, from his father Aws, who said: We were sitting with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, while he spoke to us and advised us, when a man came to him, and he mentioned the like of it.
