حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ ثَابِتٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ مَعْبَدِ بْنِ هَوْذَةَ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ جَدِّهِ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَمَرَ بِالْإِثْمِدِ الْمُرَوَّحِ عِنْدَ النَّوْمِ.

Ali ibn Thabit told us: Abd al-Rahman ibn al-Nu'man ibn Ma'bad ibn Hawdhah al-Ansari told me, from his father, from his grandfather, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, commanded the use of scented kohl (ithmid) at bedtime.
