Haytham ibn Kharijah told us: Tayyaf al-Iskandarani told us, from Ibn Sharahil ibn Bukayl, from his father Shurahbil, who said: I said to Ibn Umar, 'I have relatives in Egypt who make [a drink] from these grapes.' He said, 'And has any of the Muslims done that?' I said, 'Yes.' He said, 'Do not be like the Jews — fat was made unlawful for them, so they sold it and consumed its price.' He said: I said, 'What do you say about a man who takes a bunch of grapes, presses it, and drinks it?' He said, 'There is no harm in that.' Then when I came down, he said, 'Whatever is lawful to drink is lawful to sell.'
