حَدَّثَنَا عَتَّابُ بْنُ زِيَادٍ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ عَنْ جَابِرٍ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ إِنَّمَا الصِّيَامُ جُنَّةٌ يَسْتَجِنُّ بِهَا الْعَبْدُ مِنْ النَّارِ هُوَ لِي وَأَنَا أَجْزِي بِهِ.

Attab ibn Ziyad told us, Abdullah told us, Ibn Lahi'ah told us, Abu al-Zubayr told me, from Jabir, from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, who said: "Fasting is indeed a shield with which the servant shields himself from the Fire; it is for Me, and I shall reward for it."
