حَدَّثَنَا حَسَنٌ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ عَنْ جَابِرٍ أَنَّهُ قَالَ أَمَرَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِيَوْمِ عَاشُورَاءَ أَنْ نَصُومَهُ وَقَالَ هُوَ يَوْمٌ كَانَتْ الْيَهُودُ تَصُومُهُ.

Hasan told us, Ibn Lahi'ah told us, Abu al-Zubayr informed us, from Jabir, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, commanded us to fast on the day of 'Ashura, and said, "It is a day the Jews used to fast."
