حَدَّثَنَا حُجَيْنُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى أَبُو عُمَرَ حَدَّثَنَا لَيْثٌ عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ عَنْ جَابِرٍ قَالَ لَمْ يَكُنْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَغْزُو فِي الشَّهْرِ الْحَرَامِ إِلَّا أَنْ يُغْزَى أَوْ يُغْزَوْا فَإِذَا حَضَرَ ذَلِكَ أَقَامَ حَتَّى يَنْسَلِخَ.

Hujayn ibn al-Muthanna Abu 'Umar told us, Layth told us, from Abu al-Zubayr, from Jabir, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, would not go raiding during the sacred month unless he was attacked or his people were attacked; and if that happened while he was present, he would stay until the month passed.
