Rawh told us, Zakariyya told us, Abu al-Zubayr told us that he heard Jabir ibn Abdullah say: We were with the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, on a military expedition he led, and that was in Ramadan. A man among the Companions of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, fasted and became severely weak, and the thirst nearly killed him, and his she-camel began to wander under the thorn trees. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, was informed of this and said: "Bring him to me." So he was brought, and he said: "Are you not in the way of God and with the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him? Break your fast." So he broke his fast. Muhammad ibn Sabiq told us, Ibrahim ibn Tahman told us, from Abu al-Zubayr, from Jabir, he said: A man among us fasted while we were with the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, on one of his campaigns, and he mentioned something similar in meaning. He said: Then the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, called for a bowl and raised it in his hands and drank, so that the people would see that he was not fasting.
