حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانٌ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا ثَابِتٌ عَنْ أَنَسٍ قَالَ جَاءَ أُنَاسٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالُوا ابْعَثْ مَعَنَا رِجَالًا يُعَلِّمُونَا الْقُرْآنَ وَالسُّنَّةَ فَبَعَثَ إِلَيْهِمْ سَبْعِينَ رَجُلًا مِنْ الْأَنْصَارِ يُقَالُ لَهُمْ الْقُرَّاءُ فِيهِمْ خَالِي حَرَامٌ يَقْرَءُونَ الْقُرْآنَ وَيَتَدَارَسُونَهُ بِاللَّيْلِ وَكَانُوا بِالنَّهَارِ يَجِيئُونَ بِالْمَاءِ فَيَضَعُونَهُ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ وَيَحْتَطِبُونَ فَيَبِيعُونَهُ وَيَشْتَرُونَ بِهِ الطَّعَامَ لِأَهْلِ الصُّفَّةِ وَالْفُقَرَاءِ فَبَعَثَهُمْ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَتَفَرَّقُوا لَهُمْ فَقَتَلُوهُمْ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَبْلُغُوا الْمَكَانَ فَقَالُوا اللَّهُمَّ أَبْلِغْ عَنَّا نَبِيَّنَا أَنَّا قَدْ لَقِينَاكَ فَرَضِينَا عَنْكَ وَرَضِيتَ عَنَّا قَالَ فَأَتَى رَجُلٌ حَرَامًا خَالَ أَنَسٍ مِنْ خَلْفِهِ فَطَعَنَهُ بِرُمْحِهِ حَتَّى أَنْفَذَهُ فَقَالَ فُزْتُ وَرَبِّ الْكَعْبَةِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِأَصْحَابِهِ إِنَّ إِخْوَانَكُمْ الَّذِينَ قُتِلُوا قَالُوا لِرَبِّهِمْ بَلِّغْ عَنَّا نَبِيَّنَا أَنَّا قَدْ لَقِينَاكَ فَرَضِينَا عَنْكَ وَرَضِيتَ عَنَّا.

Some people came to the Prophet (peace be upon him) and said: 'Send men with us to teach us the Quran and the Sunnah.' So he sent seventy men of the Ansar to them, called the Qurra (Reciters), among them was my maternal uncle Haram. They would recite the Quran and study it at night, and during the day they would bring water and place it in the mosque, and collect firewood and sell it to buy food for the People of the Suffah and the poor. The Prophet (peace be upon him) sent them, but the enemy ambushed and killed them before they reached their destination. They said: 'O Allah, convey to our Prophet that we have met You and are pleased with You, and You are pleased with us.' A man came upon Haram, the maternal uncle of Anas, from behind and stabbed him with a spear, running it through him. Haram said: 'I have succeeded, by the Lord of the Ka'bah!' The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) told his Companions: 'Your brothers who were killed have said to their Lord: Convey to our Prophet that we have met You and are pleased with You, and You are pleased with us.'
