حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُوَيْسٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي ابْنُ شِهَابٍ أَنَّ أَخَاهُ أَخْبَرَ أَنَّ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ الْأَنْصَارِيَّ أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ رَجُلًا سَأَلَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَا الْكَوْثَرُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ هُوَ نَهَرٌ أَعْطَانِيهِ اللَّهُ فِي الْجَنَّةِ أَبْيَضُ مِنْ اللَّبَنِ وَأَحْلَى مِنْ الْعَسَلِ فِيهِ طُيُورٌ أَعْنَاقُهَا كَأَعْنَاقِ الْجُزُرِ فَقَالَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ إِنَّهَا لَنَاعِمَةٌ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ آكِلُوهَا أَنْعَمُ مِنْهَا.

Ya'qub told us: Abu Uways told us, he said: Ibn Shihab informed me that his brother informed him that Anas ibn Malik al-Ansari informed him that a man asked the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, 'What is al-Kawthar?' The Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, said: 'It is a river which God has given me in Paradise, whiter than milk and sweeter than honey; in it are birds whose necks are like the necks of camels.' Umar ibn al-Khattab said, 'They must be plump indeed, O Messenger of God.' The Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, said, 'Those who eat them are even more well-fed than they.'
