Hajjaj told us: Shu'bah told us, from Thabit al-Bunani, from Anas ibn Malik, from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, that he said, "None of you should wish for death because of some harm that has befallen him. But if he must do so, let him say, 'O Allah, keep me alive as long as life is good for me, and take my life when death is better for me.'"
