حَدَّثَنَا مُؤَمَّلُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ حَدَّثَنَا ثَابِتٌ عَنْ أَنَسٍ قَالَ أَتَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَنْزِلَ زَيْدِ بْنِ حَارِثَةَ فَرَأَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ امْرَأَتَهُ زَيْنَبَ وَكَأَنَّهُ دَخَلَهُ لَا أَدْرِي مِنْ قَوْلِ حَمَّادٍ أَوْ فِي الْحَدِيثِ فَجَاءَ زَيْدٌ يَشْكُوهَا إِلَيْهِ فَقَالَ لَهُ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَمْسِكْ عَلَيْكَ زَوْجَكَ وَاتَّقِ اللَّهَ قَالَ فَنَزَلَتْ { وَاتَّقِ اللَّهَ وَتُخْفِي فِي نَفْسِكَ مَا اللَّهُ مُبْدِيهِ إِلَى قَوْلِهِ زَوَّجْنَاكَهَا } يَعْنِي زَيْنَبَ.

Mu'ammal ibn Isma'il narrated to us: Hammad ibn Zayd narrated to us: Thabit narrated to us, from Anas, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, came to the house of Zayd ibn Haritha, and the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, saw his wife Zaynab, and it seemed that something entered his heart—I do not know whether this is from Hammad's own words or part of the hadith. Then Zayd came complaining about her to him, and the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said to him: "Keep your wife and fear Allah." He said: So it was revealed: "And fear Allah, while you conceal within yourself what Allah is to disclose... to His words, 'We married her to you'"—meaning Zaynab.
