حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ أَخْبَرَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ هَذَا ابْنُ آدَمَ وَهَاهُنَا أَجَلُهُ وَثَمَّ أَمَلُهُ وَقَدَّمَ عَفَّانُ يَدَهُ.

Hammad ibn Salama narrated to us: 'Ubaydullah ibn Abi Bakr informed us, from Anas ibn Malik: that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "This is the son of Adam, and here is his appointed time [of death], and there is his hope [and ambition]"—and 'Affan put forward his hand [to illustrate].
