حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي عَدِيٍّ عَنْ سَعِيدٍ وَابْنُ جَعْفَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ الْمَعْنَى عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنْ أَنَسٍ أَنَّ نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ الصَّلَاة وَالسَّلَامُ أَتَاهُ رِعْلٌ وَذَكْوَانُ وَعُصَيَّةُ وَبَنُو لِحْيَانَ فَزَعَمُوا أَنَّهُمْ قَدْ أَسْلَمُوا فَاسْتَمَدُّوهُ عَلَى قَوْمِهِمْ فَأَمَدَّهُمْ نَبِيُّ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ الصَّلَاة وَالسَّلَامُ يَوْمَئِذٍ بِسَبْعِينَ مِنْ الْأَنْصَارِ قَالَ أَنَسٌ كُنَّا نُسَمِّيهِمْ فِي زَمَانِهِمْ الْقُرَّاءَ كَانُوا يَحْطِبُونَ بِالنَّهَارِ وَيُصَلُّونَ بِاللَّيْلِ فَانْطَلَقُوا بِهِمْ حَتَّى إِذَا أَتَوْا بِئْرَ مَعُونَةَ غَدَرُوا بِهِمْ فَقَتَلُوهُمْ فَقَنَتَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ شَهْرًا فِي صَلَاةِ الصُّبْحِ يَدْعُو عَلَى هَذِهِ الْأَحْيَاءِ رِعْلٍ وَذَكْوَانَ وَعُصَيَّةَ وَبَنِي لِحْيَانَ قَالَ قَالَ قَتَادَةُ وَحَدَّثَنَا أَنَسٌ أَنَّهُمْ قَرَءُوا بِهِ قُرْآنًا وَقَالَ ابْنُ جَعْفَرٍ فِي حَدِيثِهِ إِنَّا قَرَأْنَا بِهِمْ قُرْآنًا بَلِّغُوا عَنَّا قَوْمَنَا وَإِنَّا قَدْ لَقِينَا رَبَّنَا فَرَضِيَ عَنَّا وَأَرْضَانَا ثُمَّ رُفِعَ ذَلِكَ بَعْدُ وَقَالَ ابْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ثُمَّ نُسِخَ ذَلِكَ أَوْ رُفِعَ.

Ibn Abi Adiyy narrated to us from Sa'id, and Ibn Ja'far narrated to us, Sa'id narrated to us - the meaning being the same - from Qatadah, from Anas: that the Prophet of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, was approached by the tribes of Ri'l, Dhakwan, Usayyah, and Banu Lihyan, who claimed that they had embraced Islam, and they asked him for support against their own people. So the Prophet of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, supported them that day with seventy of the Ansar. Anas said: We used to call them, in their time, "the Reciters"; they used to gather firewood by day and pray at night. They set out with them until, when they reached Bi'r Ma'unah, they betrayed them and killed them. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, then invoked curses for a month in the dawn prayer against these tribes: Ri'l, Dhakwan, Usayyah, and Banu Lihyan. Qatadah said: Anas narrated to us that they had recited concerning it a Qur'anic verse - and Ibn Ja'far said in his narration: "We recited concerning them a Qur'anic verse: 'Inform our people that we have met our Lord, and He is pleased with us and has pleased us.'" Then that was later withdrawn - and Ibn Ja'far said: "then that was abrogated or withdrawn."
