Yazid ibn Harun and Affan told us, they said: Hammad ibn Salamah told us, he said: Ali ibn Zayd informed us, from Abu Nadrah, from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, delivered to us a sermon after the Asr prayer until sunset, which some of us memorized and some forgot. He praised Allah — Affan said, and Hammad said: "and most of what I remember is that he spoke about what will occur until the Day of Resurrection" — he praised Allah and extolled Him, then said: "To proceed: This world is green and sweet, and Allah is making you successors in it, to see how you will act. So beware of this world, and beware of women. Indeed, the children of Adam were created in different classes: some are born believers, live as believers, and die as believers; some are born disbelievers, live as disbelievers, and die as disbelievers; some are born believers, live as believers, and die as disbelievers; and some are born disbelievers, live as disbelievers, and die as believers. Indeed, anger is an ember that is kindled in the breast of the son of Adam — do you not see the redness of his eyes and the swelling of his veins? So when one of you experiences something of that, let him cling to the ground. Indeed, the best of men is he who is slow to anger and quick to be pleased, and the worst of men is he who is quick to anger and slow to be pleased. If a man is slow to anger and slow to return to calm, or quick to anger and quick to return, then it balances out. Indeed, the best of merchants is he who is good in repaying and good in seeking repayment, and the worst of merchants is he who is bad in repaying and bad in seeking. If a man is good in repaying and bad in seeking, or bad in repaying and good in seeking, then it balances out. Indeed, every betrayer will have a banner on the Day of Resurrection according to the extent of his betrayal, and the greatest betrayal is the betrayal of a ruler of the general public. Indeed, let no man's awe of people prevent him from speaking the truth when he knows it. Indeed, the best jihad is a word of truth before a tyrannical ruler." When it was near sunset, he said: "Indeed, the likeness of what remains of this world compared to what has passed of it is like the likeness of what remains of this day of yours compared to what has passed of it."
