Hashim b. al-Qasim told us: al-Mubarak told me, from al-Hasan, from Abu Hurayrah, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Upon the son of Adam are three knots of silk when he spends the night sleeping. If he wakes during the night and remembers Allah, Mighty and Majestic, a knot is untied; if he then performs ablution, another knot is untied; if he then gets up, resolves, and prays, all the knots are untied. But if he spends the night without remembering Allah, without performing ablution, and without praying, until morning comes, he wakes up with all the knots still upon him." Isma'il told us, from Yunus, without raising it to the Prophet.
