عن أبي مَسْعُودٍ الْجُرَيْرِيُّ قَالَ: سَأَلَ رَجُلٌ الْحَسَنَ عَنْ قِرَاءَةِ بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ؟ قَالَ: تِلْكَ صُدُورُ الرَّسَائِلِ.

Abu Mas'ud al-Jurayri said: A man asked al-Hasan [al-Basri] about reciting 'In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.' He said: 'That is [used at] the beginning of letters.'
