Nu'aym ibn Qa'nab said, "I went to Hadrat Abu Dharr and did not find him
at home. I asked his wife, 'Where is Hadrat Abu Dharr?' 'Fetching some things
for the house. He will be back presently.' I sat down to wait for him and
he came with two camels. One of them was lined up behind the other and
each of the camels had a waterskin on its neck. Hadrat Abu Dharr took them off.
Then he came and I said, Hadrat 'Abu Dharr! There was no man who I desired to meet more than you and there was none that I hated to meet more than you!' He said, 'Your father is for Allah! How can these two be joined together?' I replied, 'In the Jahiliyya, a buried a daughter alive and I feared that I would meet you and you would say, "There is no way for you to repent. There is no way out." On the other hand, I used to hope that you would say, "There is a way for you to repent. There is a way out."' He asked," Did you do that in the Jahiliyah?" And Nuaym said "Yes.". Hadrat Abu Dharr (may Allah be well pleased with him) said," Allah has forgiven the sins committed earlier (before the Islamic times)".
He then said to his wife," Bring us the meal." But she refused to do so. He
then commanded her but she again refused to bring it and their voices were
soon raised. Hadrat Abu Dharr (may Allah be well pleased with him) said," You will not go beyond what the Messenger
of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) has said".
Nuaym asked," What has the Beloved Messenger of Allah said about them?" Hadrat Abu Dharr (may Allah be well pleased with him) said," The Beloved Messenger of Allah has said that a woman is created from a crooked rib and if you attempt to straighten it you will break it but if you leave her alone you will enjoy her while the crookedness remains in her".
His wife then turned her back to them and went away and brought thareed as though she matched the bird Qatah (in swiftness). He then said," you go ahead, eat the food. And do not worry (about eating alone). For I am fasting," he stood up to offer prayers and hurried to the bowing posture. After he had
finished his prayer, he began to eat. Nuaym exclaimed, "We belong to Allah! I had given no thought to it that you would lie to me. You said just now that you were fasting and you have come to eat".
He said,"Your father is for Allah! Ever since I have met you, I have not spoken a lie." Nuaym said, "Did you not tell me that you were fasting?" He said,"Yes. I have kept three fasts in this month so that the reward for it is written down for me while it is lawful for me to eat too.

حضرت نعیم بن قعنب فرماتے ہیں: 'میں حضرت ابو ذر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ کے گھر گیا مگر وہ نہیں ملے۔ میں نے ان کی بیوی سے پوچھا: حضرت ابو ذر کہاں ہیں؟ کہا: گھر کا سامان لانے گئے ہیں، ابھی آئیں گے۔ میں بیٹھ کر انتظار کرنے لگا۔ وہ دو اونٹ لے کر آئے، ایک دوسرے کے پیچھے، ہر اونٹ کی گردن پر مشکیزہ تھا۔ حضرت ابو ذر نے مشکیزے اتارے پھر آئے۔ میں نے کہا: حضرت ابو ذر! کوئی شخص نہیں تھا جس سے ملنے کی مجھے آپ سے زیادہ خواہش تھی اور کوئی نہیں تھا جس سے ملنے سے مجھے آپ سے زیادہ ڈر تھا! فرمایا: تمہارا باپ اللہ کے لیے! یہ دونوں باتیں ایک ساتھ کیسے ہو سکتی ہیں؟ میں نے کہا: زمانۂ جاہلیت میں میں نے اپنی بیٹی زندہ دفن کی تھی اور ڈرتا تھا کہ آپ سے ملوں گا تو آپ فرمائیں گے: تیری توبہ کا کوئی راستہ نہیں۔ دوسری طرف امید تھی کہ آپ فرمائیں گے: توبہ کا راستہ ہے۔ پوچھا: کیا تم نے یہ جاہلیت میں کیا؟ میں نے کہا: ہاں۔ فرمایا: اللہ نے اس سے پہلے کے گناہ معاف فرما دیے ہیں۔ پھر بیوی سے کہا: کھانا لاؤ۔ بیوی نے انکار کیا۔ پھر حکم دیا مگر پھر انکار۔ دونوں کی آوازیں بلند ہوئیں۔ حضرت ابو ذر نے فرمایا: تم اس سے آگے نہیں بڑھو گی جو رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے فرمایا ہے۔ میں نے پوچھا: رسول اللہ نے ان کے بارے میں کیا فرمایا؟ فرمایا: رسول اللہ نے فرمایا: عورت ٹیڑھی پسلی سے بنائی گئی ہے، اگر سیدھا کرو گے تو توڑ دو گے اور اگر چھوڑ دو گے تو اس سے فائدہ اٹھاؤ گے جبکہ ٹیڑھاپن اس میں رہے گا۔ پھر بیوی نے پیٹھ پھیری اور تیزی سے ثرید لے آئی۔ فرمایا: تم کھاؤ، فکر نہ کرو، میں روزے سے ہوں۔ وہ نماز کے لیے کھڑے ہوئے اور جلدی سے رکوع کیا۔ نماز سے فارغ ہو کر کھانے لگے۔ میں نے کہا: انا للہ! مجھے خیال بھی نہ تھا کہ آپ مجھ سے جھوٹ بولیں گے۔ ابھی تو آپ نے کہا تھا کہ روزے سے ہو اور اب کھا رہے ہو! فرمایا: تمہارا باپ اللہ کے لیے! جب سے تم سے ملا ہوں میں نے جھوٹ نہیں بولا۔ میں نے کہا: کیا آپ نے نہیں فرمایا کہ روزے سے ہو؟ فرمایا: ہاں! میں نے اس مہینے میں تین روزے رکھے ہیں تو ان کا ثواب مجھے لکھا گیا اور مجھے کھانا بھی حلال ہے۔'
