Khalid (upon him be mercy) narrates: Hadrat al-Miqdam ibn Ma'dikarib (may Allah be well pleased with him), Amr ibn al-Aswad (may Allah be well pleased with him), and a man from Banu Asad from the people of Qinnasrin came to Hadrat Mu'awiyah ibn Abi Sufyan (may Allah be well pleased with them both). Hadrat Mu'awiyah said to al-Miqdam: Do you know that Hadrat al-Hasan ibn Ali (may Allah be well pleased with them both) has passed away? Al-Miqdam recited: 'Indeed we belong to Allah and to Him we shall return.' A man said: Do you consider it a calamity? He replied: Why should I not consider it a calamity when the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) used to take him upon his blessed lap and say: This one resembles me, and Husayn resembles Ali. The Asadi said: He was a burning coal which Allah, Mighty and Glorious, has extinguished. Al-Miqdam said: Today I shall not leave without making you angry and making you hear what you dislike. Then he said: O Hadrat Mu'awiyah, if I speak the truth, confirm me; and if I lie, refute me. Hadrat Mu'awiyah said: I shall do so. Al-Miqdam said: I adjure you by Allah, do you know that the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) forbade wearing gold? He said: Yes. He said: I adjure you by Allah, did you hear the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) forbid wearing silk? He said: Yes. He said: I adjure you by Allah, do you know that the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) forbade wearing the skins of predatory beasts and riding upon them? He said: Yes. Al-Miqdam said: By Allah, I have seen all of these things in your house, O Hadrat Mu'awiyah! Hadrat Mu'awiyah said: O Miqdam, I knew I could not escape you. Khalid said: Hadrat Mu'awiyah then ordered that al-Miqdam be given more than his two companions had received, and assigned his son a stipend among the two-hundred. Al-Miqdam distributed all of it among his companions, while the Asadi gave nothing from his share to anyone. When Hadrat Mu'awiyah was informed of this, he said: Al-Miqdam is a generous man who opened his hand, while the Asadi kept his possessions well.
الترجمة الأردية
خالد رحمۃ اللہ علیہ فرماتے ہیں کہ حضرت مقدام بن معدی کرب رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ، عمرو بن اسود رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ اور بنی اسد کے اہلِ قِنَّسرین کا ایک شخص حضرت معاویہ بن ابی سفیان رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہما کے پاس آئے۔ حضرت معاویہ نے حضرت مقدام سے فرمایا: کیا آپ کو خبر ہے کہ حضرت حسن بن علی رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہما کا وصال ہو گیا؟ حضرت مقدام نے «إِنَّا لِلَّهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ» پڑھا۔ ایک شخص نے کہا: کیا آپ اسے مصیبت سمجھتے ہیں؟ انہوں نے فرمایا: میں اسے مصیبت کیوں نہ سمجھوں جب کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے انہیں اپنی گود مبارک میں بٹھایا اور ارشاد فرمایا: یہ میرے مشابہ ہے اور حسین علی کے مشابہ ہے۔ اسدی نے کہا: ایک انگارہ تھا جسے اللہ عزّوجل نے بجھا دیا۔ حضرت مقدام نے فرمایا: آج میں آپ کو ناراض کیے اور ناپسندیدہ بات سنائے بغیر نہیں رہوں گا۔ پھر فرمایا: حضرت معاویہ! اگر میں سچ کہوں تو میری تصدیق کیجیے اور اگر جھوٹ کہوں تو جھٹلا دیجیے۔ حضرت معاویہ نے فرمایا: ایسا ہی کروں گا۔ حضرت مقدام نے فرمایا: میں اللہ کا واسطہ دے کر پوچھتا ہوں، کیا آپ جانتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے سونا پہننے سے منع فرمایا ہے؟ فرمایا: ہاں۔ فرمایا: میں اللہ کا واسطہ دے کر پوچھتا ہوں، کیا آپ نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کو ریشم پہننے سے منع فرماتے سنا ہے؟ فرمایا: ہاں۔ فرمایا: میں اللہ کا واسطہ دے کر پوچھتا ہوں، کیا آپ جانتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے درندوں کی کھال پہننے اور ان پر سوار ہونے سے منع فرمایا ہے؟ فرمایا: ہاں۔ حضرت مقدام نے فرمایا: اللہ کی قسم! میں نے یہ سب چیزیں آپ کے گھر میں دیکھی ہیں، اے حضرت معاویہ! حضرت معاویہ نے فرمایا: مقدام! مجھے معلوم تھا کہ آپ سے بچنا ممکن نہیں۔ خالد فرماتے ہیں: حضرت معاویہ نے حضرت مقدام کو اتنا مال دینے کا حکم دیا جتنا ان کے دونوں ساتھیوں کو نہیں دیا تھا اور ان کے صاحبزادے کا وظیفہ دو سو میں مقرر فرمایا۔ حضرت مقدام نے وہ سب اپنے ساتھیوں میں بانٹ دیا، جبکہ اسدی نے اپنے حصے میں سے کسی کو کچھ نہ دیا۔ جب حضرت معاویہ کو یہ بات پہنچی تو فرمایا: مقدام سخی آدمی ہیں جنہوں نے اپنا ہاتھ کھلا رکھا، اور اسدی نے اپنا مال اچھی طرح سنبھالا۔
