Hadrat Laqit ibn Sabirah (may Allah be well pleased with him) narrates: I came to the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) as the leader of the delegation of Banu al-Muntafiq — or as a member of that delegation. When we reached him (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), he was not at home. We found Umm al-Mu'minin Hadrat Aisha Siddiqah (may Allah be well pleased with her), who ordered that khazirah (a type of dish) be prepared for us, and it was prepared. A tray was brought to us (Qutaybah did not mention the word qina'; qina' is a tray in which dates are placed). Then the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) came and asked: 'Have you received anything to eat, or was something ordered for you?' We said: 'Yes, O Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him).' While we were sitting with him (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), a shepherd drove his sheep towards the fold, and with him was a newborn kid that was bleating. He (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) asked: 'What was born, O so-and-so?' He replied: 'A ewe.' He (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: 'Slaughter a sheep for us in its place.' Then he (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said (to me): 'Do not think that we slaughtered it on your account. We have a hundred sheep and do not wish their number to increase. Whenever a kid is born, we slaughter a sheep in its place.' I then submitted: 'O Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), I have a wife whose tongue is sharp (i.e., she is insolent).' He (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: 'Then divorce her.' I submitted: 'O Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), we have been together a long time and I have children from her.' He (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: 'Then counsel her (advise her). If there is any good in her, she will comply. And do not beat your wife as you would beat your slave-girl.' I then submitted: 'O Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), tell me about ablution.' He (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated: 'Perform ablution thoroughly, run water through the fingers (interlacing them), and snuff water well into the nose — unless you are fasting.'

حضرت لقیط بن صبرہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ فرماتے ہیں کہ میں بنی منتفق کے وفد کا سردار بن کر — یا بنی منتفق کے وفد میں شامل ہو کر — رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کی خدمت میں حاضر ہوا۔ جب ہم آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کے پاس پہنچے تو آپ گھر میں تشریف نہ رکھتے تھے۔ ہمیں حضرت اُمّ المؤمنین عائشہ صدیقہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہا ملیں، انہوں نے ہمارے لیے خزیرہ (ایک قسم کا کھانا) تیار کرنے کا حکم دیا، چنانچہ وہ تیار کیا گیا۔ ہمارے سامنے ایک طبق لایا گیا (قتیبہ نے «قناع» کا لفظ نہیں کہا؛ قناع اس تھالی کو کہتے ہیں جس میں کھجور رکھی جاتی ہے)۔ پھر رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم تشریف لائے اور ارشاد فرمایا: کیا تمہیں کچھ کھانے کو ملا یا تمہارے لیے کسی چیز کا حکم دیا گیا؟ ہم نے عرض کیا: جی ہاں، یا رسول اللہ! ہم آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کے پاس بیٹھے تھے کہ اچانک چرواہا اپنی بکریاں باڑے کی طرف لے آیا، اس کے ساتھ ایک بکری کا بچہ تھا جو ممیا رہا تھا۔ آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے (چرواہے سے) پوچھا: اے فلاں! کیا پیدا ہوا؟ اس نے عرض کیا: مادہ (بچہ)۔ آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا: اس کی جگہ ہمارے لیے ایک بکری ذبح کرو۔ پھر (مجھ سے) فرمایا: یہ نہ سمجھنا کہ ہم نے تمہارے لیے ذبح کیا ہے، بلکہ ہمارے پاس سو بکریاں ہیں اور ہم ان کی تعداد بڑھانا نہیں چاہتے، جب بھی کوئی بچہ پیدا ہوتا ہے تو ہم اس کی جگہ ایک بکری ذبح کر دیتے ہیں۔ لقیط فرماتے ہیں: میں نے عرض کیا: یا رسول اللہ! میری بیوی ہے جو زبان دراز ہے (میں کیا کروں)؟ آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا: تو اسے طلاق دے دو۔ میں نے عرض کیا: یا رسول اللہ! ایک مدت سے میرا اس کا ساتھ ہے اور اس سے میری اولاد بھی ہے۔ آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا: تو اسے نصیحت کرو، اگر اس میں بھلائی ہے تو تمہاری بات مان لے گی، اور اپنی بیوی کو اس طرح نہ مارو جیسے تم اپنی لونڈی کو مارتے ہو۔ پھر میں نے عرض کیا: یا رسول اللہ! مجھے وضو کے بارے میں بتائیے۔ آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا: وضو پوری طرح مکمل کرو، انگلیوں کا خلال کرو، اور ناک میں خوب اچھی طرح پانی پہنچاؤ، البتہ اگر تم روزے سے ہو (تو زیادہ پانی نہ چڑھاؤ)۔
