Sa'id ibn al-Musayyib narrated that 'Umar said regarding a man who makes zihar from three of his wives: "He owes one expiation."
نا هُشَيْمٌ، أنا حَجَّاجٌ، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ، قَالَ: سَأَلْتُهُ عَنْ ذَلِكَ، فَقَالَ:" عَلَيْهِ كَفَّارَةٌ وَاحِدَةٌ".
'Ata' said: "He owes one expiation."
ثنا هُشَيْمٌ، أنا يُونُسُ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ، وَعُبَيْدَةَ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، قَالا:" عَلَيْهِ ثَلاثُ كَفَّارَاتٍ".
Al-Hasan and Ibrahim both said: "He owes three expiations."

Al-Hasan said: "Freeing a Jewish or Christian slave does not suffice for the expiation of zihar. Only freeing a Muslim slave is sufficient for any expiation."
نا هُشَيْمٌ، عَنْ مُغِيرَةَ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ:" لا يُجْزِئُ عِتْقُ الصَّبِيِّ فِي كَفَّارَةِ الظِّهَارِ".
Ibrahim said: "Freeing a minor (child slave) does not suffice for the expiation of zihar."

Ibrahim considered freeing a Jewish or Christian slave to be permissible for the expiation of zihar.
نا هُشَيْمٌ، أنا يُونُسُ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ، مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ.
Al-Hasan also considered it permissible (to free a Jewish or Christian slave for zihar expiation).

Ibrahim permitted freeing a one-eyed slave for the expiation of zihar, but did not permit freeing a blind slave.
نا هُشَيْمٌ، أنا مُغِيرَةُ، عَنْ شِبَاكٍ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ،" أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَرَىعِتْقَ أُمِّ الْوَلَدِ جَائِزًا فِي كَفَّارَةِ الظِّهَارِ".
Ibrahim considered it permissible to free an umm walad (slave mother of one's child) for the expiation of zihar.
